A BILL to amend and reenact section two, article four, chapter eighteen-a of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, relating to teachers' salaries; increasing the minimum salary paid to teachers each year for three years; and, for three years, increasing the experience steps in the state minimum salary schedules from nineteen years to thirty-five years.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That section two, article four, chapter eighteen-a of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 4. SALARIES, WAGES AND OTHER BENEFITS.
§18A-4-2. State Minimum salaries for teachers.
(a) Each teacher shall receive the amount prescribed in the "state minimum salary schedule I" as set forth in this section, specific additional amounts prescribed in this section or article, and any county supplement in effect in a county pursuant to section five-a of this article during the contract year: Provided, That beginning on the first day of July, the second quarter of the teacher's employment term in the school year two thousand one two and continuing through the thirtieth day of June, two thousand two three, and thereafter, each teacher shall receive the amount prescribed in "state minimum salary schedule II" as set forth in this section, specific additional amounts prescribed in this section or article, and any county supplement in effect in a county pursuant to section five-a of this article during the contract year. Beginning on the first day of July, two thousand three and continuing through the thirtieth day of June, two thousand four, each teacher shall receive the minimum amount prescribed in "state minimum salary schedule III" as set forth in this section, specific additional amounts prescribed in this section or article, and any county salary supplement in effect in a county pursuant to section five-a of this article during the contract year. Beginning on the first day of July, two thousand four, and thereafter, each teacher shall receive the amount prescribed in "state minimum salary schedule IV" as set forth in this section, specific additional amounts prescribed in this section or article, and any county salary supplement in effect in a county pursuant to section five-a of this article during each contract year.
