A BILL to amend and reenact §29-18-4a of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to aligning the salary of the Director of the State Rail Authority with similar positions in state government; and providing that the Secretary of Transportation set the salary with the consent of the authority.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 18. WEST VIRGINIA STATE RAIL AUTHORITY.


§29-18-4a. West Virginia State Rail Authority director’s salary set by the authority.

Notwithstanding any other provisions of this code to the contrary, the salary of the Executive Director of the State Rail Authority shall be set by the authority: Provided, That the salary set by the State Rail Authority for the Executive Director may not be less than $60,000 and not more than $70,000 per year Secretary of the Department of Transportation with the consent of the authority. The director’s salary shall be paid from general revenue appropriations and shall be consistent with the salaries for similar positions in state government.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to remove the minimum and maximum salary caps for the director of the State Rail Authority, allow the Secretary of the Department of Transportation to set the salary with the consent of the authority, and allow the salary to be consistent with the salary for similar positions in state government.
