A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §7-8-11a, relating to deduction from jail sentence for litter cleanup:

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §7-8-11a, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 8. JAIL AND JAILER.


§7-8-11a.  Deduction from sentence for litter cleanup.

At the discretion of the County Commission of the county in which a violation occurred, and which in the judgment of the commission has litter to be cleaned up, a nonviolent offender sentenced to jail may have one day of his or her sentence deducted for each day the offender participates in cleaning up litter in the county.  To be eligible, the offender shall faithfully comply with all rules and regulations of the jail during the term of confinement.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to provide for sentence reduction of jail inmates who participate in cleaning up litter.
