A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §29-1I-6, relating to
the Veterans Memorial; Veterans to be included.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §29-1I-6, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 1I. VOLUNTARY VETERANS MEMORIAL CHECK-OFF PROGRAM.
§29-1I-6. Veterans to be included on Memorial.
(a) All veterans who give their lives in the service of the
United States of America and at the time were residents of the
State of West Virginia, even is such sacrifice of life occurred
after the twentieth century, shall be eligible to have their names
inscribed on the Veterans Memorial located on the grounds of the
State Capitol.
(b) Notwithstanding any other provision in this code, veterans who died in combat in the following conflicts or wars shall be
eligible to have their names inscribed on the Veterans Memorial
Monument located on the grounds of the State Capitol Complex:
(1) Any veteran who gave his or her life in conflicts in
Kosovo or Afghanistan;
(2) Any veteran who gave his or her life in the war in Iraq.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to enable veterans killed in
action after the twentieth century to have their names inscribed on
the Veterans Memorial on the State Capitol Complex.
