A BILL to amend article four, chapter eighteen-a of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section twenty, relating to providing moving expenses for teachers laid off due to lack of need in a county who are forced to move to another county to teach.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That article four, chapter eighteen-a of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section twenty, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 4. SALARIES, WAGES AND OTHER BENEFITS.

§18A-4-20. Moving expenses allowed for teachers laid off in counties due to lack of need.

(a) Subject to available state appropriations, the state board shall provide moving expenses in an amount not to exceed five thousand dollars for teachers who relocate to other counties as the result of being dismissed from their employment in a county due to lack of need.
(b) To assist the state board in meeting its obligation under this section, on or after the first day of July, two thousand two, state funds for this purpose shall be paid within the West Virginia public school support plan in accordance with article nine-a, chapter eighteen of this code. The amount allocated for the purpose of this section shall be an amount sufficient to meet the maximum requirements of this section for two hundred teachers displaced due to lack of need.


NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to provide financial assistance to teachers forced to move from a county, due to lack of need, to another county to teach.
