SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
(By Senators Plymale, Minard, Prezioso, Jenkins, White, Williams,
Foster, Wells, Boley, Guills, Stollings, McCabe, Unger, Palumbo
and Chafin)
Honoring Dr. C. Peter Magrath, Interim President of West Virginia
University, for his leadership, dedication and service.
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath has served as Interim President
at West Virginia University since August 1, 2008; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath earned his bachelor's degree
from the University of New Hampshire and Ph. D. from Cornell
University; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath is a nationally respected figure
in the higher education community; and
Whereas, From 1992 through 2005, Dr. C. Peter Magrath served
as president of the National Association of State Universities and
Land-Grant Colleges; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath served as president of three
public universities; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath authored numerous books,
monographs and articles on American constitutional law and history,
higher education and international affairs; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath, during his short tenure as
Interim President of West Virginia University, led the charge to put West Virginia University in the upper echelon of higher
education institutions; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath laid the groundwork that will
benefit future presidents of West Virginia University; and
Whereas, Dr. C. Peter Magrath is a distinguished leader and
shining example for the people of West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby honors Dr. C. Peter Magrath, Interim
President of West Virginia University, for his leadership,
dedication and service; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its best wishes to
Dr. C. Peter Magrath for continued success and wishes him luck on
any future endeavors he may choose to pursue; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Dr. C. Peter Magrath.
