
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 28
(Originating in the Committee on Finance)
Requesting the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals increase the
 reimbursement, over a five-year period, for jurors serving on
 petit juries to the maximum of forty dollars per day.

Whereas, The Supreme Court of Appeals, by administrative
 orders, has restricted the amount of compensation to jurors at the
 statutory minimum of fifteen dollars per day; and

Whereas, The Legislature recognizes and appreciates the vital
 function that jurors play in our society and judicial system; and

Whereas, Many people who are selected for jury duty do so at
 great personal expense and inconvenience both to the juror and the
 juror's family; and

Whereas, There has been legislation introduced this
 legislative session to set the reimbursement for jurors at forty
 dollars per day; and

Whereas, In recent years the Legislature has increased the
 amount of money paid to election poll workers to one hundred
 dollars per day; and

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Supreme Court is hereby requested to increase the reimbursement of jurors from the current fifteen dollars per day to
 forty dollars per day over the next five years; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
 directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Supreme Court
 of Appeals.
