    This bill requires the Supreme Court of Appeals to split the cost of hiring school-based probation officers with county boards of education in instances where the county has employed such officers.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):

    The total cost for maintaing probation officers in the circuits currently operating truancy courts is estimated to be $418,314. Upon passage of this legislation, the Supreme Court of Appeals will be expect to expend $209,157 toward employing these officers.
    Those counties currently employing school-based probation officers and participating in a truancy program include: Boone, Greenbrier, Logan, Mercer, Monongalia and Putnam.
