Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to expand the age range for breast cancer screening procedures for females aged 30 to 40 years old and coverage for a comprehensive ultrasound if certain indications for high risk or dense breast tissue are present.
PEIA currently pays for annual mammography screenings at 100% cost for females 40 and over. After deductibles and coinsurance, annual mammograms are paid for females under 40. Ultrasounds can increase cancer detection in dense breast tissue. After deductibles and coinsurance, PEIA pays for breast ultrasounds. PEIA’s current benefit for breast cancer screenings aligns with the proposed bill, and there will be no fiscal impact to PEIA if the proposed bill is passed.
