Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

Summarize in a clear and concise manner what impact this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government. The purpose of this bill is to provide a waiver of tuition and fees at state institutions of higher education and community and technical colleges for military veterans, their spouses, and dependents, when that veteran has a service-related disability of 50 percent or greater. We cannot quantify the number of students who would potentially qualify under these specific criteria. The bill does not refer to West Virginia resident disabled veterans, spouses, and children. Neither does it specify any time parameters. We do not expect this bill to have a significant fiscal impact that would require additional state appropriations; however, individual institutions could have impact dependent on the number of qualifying students.
