This proposed legislation will impact the State by increasing expenses for the State by the cost of tuition for dual credit courses students taken during high school. The costs incurred by the enactment of this legislation will by colleges and universities offering the courses.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):


During the 2020 - 21 school year 7,873 high school students were enrolled in 16,046 courses with a 95.47% paggage rate. Students were required to pay a reduced tuition cost to enroll in the courses. Low income families may have lower participation in dual credit courses due to the tuition payment requirement. The cost to cover 10,000 students enrolled in 2 courses annually would be approximately $4,200,00.00.

In its current form, this legislation does not define the maximum number of courses a student may take under this program which may impact fiscal estimates.
