Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
Summarize in a clear and concise manner what impact this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
There would be a fiscal impact on the agency, but we currently do not track employees who enroll in higher education while employed.
g) Amount of reimbursement. – The reimbursement amount shall be 20 percent of the total cost of the undergraduate study per year, to be paid in full at 100 percent after five years of work with the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
A check with 5 universities in West Virginia (WVU, Marshall, Fairmont, West Liberty and Bluefield) have an average tuition cost of $9126.80 per year. The Bill calls for a 20% payment the first qualified year reimbursement which is $1825.36 per (student) employee reimbursement each year. If the employee (student) takes advantage of the full 5 years of qualifying education, the agency would pay out $9,126.80 per participant.
