Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The decrease in county budgets would vary from county to county based on county classification. There would be a possible budget decrease in Class 1 counties of $18,339 (shown above) to a decrease in Class X counties of $8,583. This increase does not include the increase in FICA, retirement and WC obligations.
Memorandum
This legislation would reduce the county general revenue fund by increasing the salary of sheriffs in counties where the increase is requested and authorized by certification of the State Auditor that revenue exists to meet the increase. The amount shown in the chart above is for a Class 1 county.
