The potential fiscal impact on the West Virginia State Police related to agency retirement contributions cannot be determined at this time. Any associated costs would be calculated by the actuary for the West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board.
Currently, the average retirement age for a West Virginia State Trooper is between 51 and 52. Based on the language in the proposed legislation, it is anticipated that the retention rate may increase toward age 55 due to the change in the annuity adjustment age, potentially resulting in unknown savings in training costs.
