Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The numbers recorded above reflect the impact of this bill as leading to new obligations on the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office, resulting in the addition of 1 paralegal to existing staff. This response assumes that the costs of mediation, including mediator, office space, and related expenses, will be borne by the litigants and not the State. Depending on the number of relevant actions and mediations, the cost to the State in terms of increased expenses could be in excess of the above estimate.
