Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to provide for enhanced retirement benefits for 911 staff members within the Public Employees Retirement system. PEIA does not believe this bill will have a material fiscal impact on PEIA. Although the enhanced benefit plan allows for a lower age requirement to qualify for retirement benefits, it doesn’t impact the dates of eligibility for the WV OPEB Plan. Therefore, there is no change to the number of PERS participants that were otherwise eligible for the WV OPEB Plan. Additionally, PEIA estimates possibly eligible WV OPEB plan members for this class to be less than 700.
