Fiscal Note Summary


Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.


The proposed legislation will increase the fee for filings of 1 to 9 pages in the county clerk’s office from $1 to $2. It is estimated that the change would result in an increase of 50% to 60% in the Public Records and Preservation Revenue Account and would enable the Records Management and Preservation Board to continue awarding grants to county officials at current or increased levels. Costs: No increased cost to state government Revenues: Passage of this legislation would result in an annual increase of more than $200,000 in the Public Records and Preservation Revenue Account

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):


This is a process currently in place and would require no additional costs. Based on an analysis of prior months filing fees from counties, we provided the above estimates using an estimated increase of 57% over current levels. This is a necessary service and the increase from $1 to $2 is not expected to affect volume, thus, this increase in revenue is projected to continue indefinitely.
