Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The passage of this bill would allow WVDCR facility staff to utilize this program, if it was determined their death was a proximate result of their job duty. WDCR staff work in congregate facilities where exposure to COVID is nearly impossible to avoid. Since March 14, 2021, it is estimated that two WVDCR staff have died because of COVID, however, it is uncertain how many of those would be certified a death as a proximate result of their duty, One Juvenile staff died in an auto accident traveling to/from their place of employment therefore, we would estimate the fiscal impact to the state of West Virginia would be at most $100,000 to $300,000.
