Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

SB498 will increase the jury reimbursement rate from "not less than $15 nor more than $40 per day" to $80 per day for each day of required attendance. To determine the estimated increases in expenditures, jury fees in FY 2022 and FY 2023 were reviewed. Using the data from FY 2022 and the first 6 months of FY 2023, we determined that the average (annual) jury service reimbursement is 17,500 days of jury service per year. If the jury reimbursement rate increases to $80 per day, the annual increase in Court expenditures would be $700,000 (17,500 days x $40).
