Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
Summarize in a clear and concise manner what impact this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
House Bill 2337 would have very little effect on costs and revenues for the West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH). DOH does not currently place signs for the purpose of displaying the name of a public official. Therefore, the signs are necessary to provide directions or provide information to travelers. The inclusion of an officials name has very minimal affect on the costs.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
Please explain increases and decreases in personal services, current expenses, repairs and alterations, assets, other costs and revenues, including assumptions and data sources and delineation between start-up and ongoing costs. Please also include a long-range schedule of costs and revenues if fiscal impact is expected to vary in future years.
Memorandum
Please identify any areas of vagueness, technical defects, reasons a bill would not have a fiscal impact, and/or any special issues not captured elsewhere on this form.
1. The bill does not provide a definition of the term "public official".
2. Technically the bill would prohibit the use of a name like "Washington" on a sign. This would be problematic in providing proper directional signs. Also, if an entity, such as a city named a street after their current mayor, the DOH would be prevented to provide directional signing to the newly named road.
