The WVDE lacks the information necessary to calculate an estimate regarding the potential fiscal impact of this proposed legislation.
Memorandum
Currently, there are multiple pathways through the WVDE available for military veterans who hold a bachelor’s degree to obtain a teacher certification. Additional information regarding this issues can be found at TeachWV.com. The provisions of this legislation provides that retired armed forces officers or staff non-commissioned officers are not required to hold a bachelor’s degree or complete any additional coursework or program to be certified as a teacher in a WV classroom.
