Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
The estimated cost to the state under the Public School Support Program is $8,528,132. This total estimated cost includes an increase in Step 2, the allowance for service personnel salaries of $6,266,077; an increase in Step 3, the allowance for fixed charges of $538,883; an increase in Step 6, the allowance for other current expense and substitutes of $783,260; and in increase in retirement costs of $939,912.
Please note that the estimate assumes that the $500 increase will be through the basic salary table set forth in WVC 18A-4-8a(a)(1) instead of through the state equity provision set forth in WVC 18A-4-8a(f). The proposed legislation does not specify which portion of the State Minimum Pay Scale will be impacted.
