Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The bill proposes to raise the cap on compensation for family court secretary-clerks from $35,000 to $43,000 and for family case coordinators from $46,060 to $56,000. Family court case coordinators are currently paid from $37,836 to $47,496 plus benefits, depending on which of five levels they have attained. Family court secretary-clerks are currently paid $35,496 plus benefits. Note that some case coordinators and all secretary-clerks are paid in excess of the current caps set in 51-2A-6 as the result of other across-the-board pay raises granted by the legislature. Given the five salary levels presently in place for case coordinators, determining the exact cost of the bill is difficult. However, for the purposes of considering the potential costs of this bill, we will assume that all case coordinators and secretary-clerks will have their pay raised to the cap for the next fiscal year after passage of the bill. With this assumption, the costs of the bill could be as much as the following: Case Coordinators (47 statewide) Increased Salary Cost: $605,000 per year Increased Benefit Cost: $120,00 per year Secretary-Clerks (47 statewide) Increased Salary Cost: $353,000 per year Increased Benefit Cost: $70,00 per year Total Increased Cost per year: $1,148,000
