Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
Summarize in a clear and concise manner what impact this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The proposed legislation would allow the DEP Hazardous Waste Management Program to continue until 2025. The Hazardous Waste Management Fee Fund was established to collect certification fees from facilities that manage hazardous waste and provide funding to meet matching requirements for all federal grants that support the Hazardous Waste Management Program. Currently, this fund is used to meet the 25% matching requirement of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) grant awarded to DEP by the US EPA. Without the matching funding provided by the Hazardous Waste Management Fee Fund, this DEP program would lose approximately $1.63 million in federal funding annually, resulting in a total annual loss of $2.33 million of annual funding. DEP would be forced to discontinue the Hazardous Waste Management Program.
