A number of West Virginia lawmakers met today at the State Capitol with members of the National Silver Haired Congress

Charleston— A number of West Virginia lawmakers met today at the State Capitol with members of the National Silver Haired Congress (NSHC) and the National Council of Silver Haired Legislators to discuss legislation passed or vetoed during this year’s regular session regarding senior issues.

Members of the NSHC and the National Silver Haired Legislators came from across the country for their annual summer meeting which was held in Charleston this year. On their agenda was to hear from West Virginia lawmakers who sponsored legislation regarding senior issues. Both the NSHC and the Silver Haired Legislators are non-partisan and serve as advocates for Federal-level issues and concerns relating to senior citizens through education and awareness.

“It was truly an honor first to have the NSHC and the Silver Haired Legislators hold their meeting in West Virginia, and it was even more important to hear their opinions and thoughts on how West Virginia is treating its seniors,” said Delegate David Perry (D-Fayette) who spoke to the members on his bill that provides added protection to incapacitated adults from abuse or neglect by their care givers that he sponsored.

Other members of the legislature met with the special guests including Delegate Dale Martin (D-Putnam) who discussed his bill regarding changes made to the West Virginia Independent Living Council and Delegate Barbara Hatfield (D-Kanawha) who talked about a resolution adopted this year that recognizes the importance of health care reform in the state.

Also meeting with the NSHC and the National Silver Haired Congress were Delegate Carrie Webster (D-Kanawha), Senator Erik Wells (D-Kanawha) and Senator Dan Foster (D-Kanawha).
