Statement from Delegate Mike Caputo regarding West Virginia AFL-CIO President Kenny Perdue’s retirement.

The following is a statement from Delegate Mike Caputo, D-Marion, House Minority Whip and United Mine Workers of America District 31 international vice president, regarding West Virginia AFL-CIO President Kenny Perdue’s retirement:

"I’d like to congratulate Kenny on his retirement, and wish him well. I know he is looking forward to this new phase in his life, but those of us who advocate for working people, whether in the field or at the Legislature, are sorry to see him go.

Kenny and I have known each other for many years, going back to the mid-1990s when we both worked in the labor movement, and I consider him a great friend. Not long after I was elected to the Legislature in 1996, Kenny was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the West Virginia AFL-CIO, and has remained a strong, tireless leader of that organization to this day.

As both a delegate and a labor leader, I am extremely grateful to Kenny Perdue for his service on behalf of working families."
