House Democrats Thank Educators for Fighting for 5 Percent Pay Raises for All State Employees

Charleston, WV - The Democratic members of the House of Delegates are pleased that Senate President Mitch Carmichael and his Republican team finally came around to the position of the House Democrats, Senate Democrats, House Republicans and the Governor to provide 5% pay raises to teachers, school service personnel and state troopers.

“Teachers, school service personnel, state employees and their allies have made their voices heard the past 9 days,” House Minority Leader Tim Miley (D-Harrison) stated. “House Democrats were pleased to rally with these educators, and we thank them for putting pressure on the Governor and the Legislature to act.”

“The House of Delegates immediately took action on pay raise legislation after the Governor released updated revenue numbers,” Delegate Miley stated. “The public became increasingly frustrated that Senate Republicans took nearly a week to recognize that we were not backing down from this meaningful pay raise for our workers.”

“The next step for the Legislature is to provide an equivalent 5 percent pay raises to the remaining public employees through the budget process this week,” Miley stated. “Then, we need to turn our full attention to finding a permanent fix to PEIA,” Delegate Miley urged.
