Delegates Doyle, Brown Request WVDEP to Host Public Hearing on Mountaineer Pipeline

CHARLESTON—Delegates John Doyle and Sammi Brown, both D-Jefferson, are requesting the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to host a public hearing on the Mountaineer Pipeline project.

Delegates Doyle and Brown met with Jason Wandling, DEP general counsel, and Scott Mandirola, DEP deputy secretary, Wednesday, urging them to host a public hearing or public meeting in Jefferson County for the proposal.

“I believe it is in the community’s best interest to encourage, if not lift up, full transparency of all agencies and this is our first step toward that ultimate goal. It is encouraging that the DEP agreed to meet with us but now, we want to take it a step further and bring them back to Jefferson County for an exchange of information and potential concerns,” Delegate Brown said.

“Regardless of how this ends up, Del Doyle and I will be pushing for legislation to increase transparency,” Delegate Brown added.

“Sadly, state law does not require the DEP to hold a public hearing on a project like this. I think state law should require such a hearing and I believe very strongly that DEP should on its own decide to have this hearing,” Delegate Doyle said.
