Senate Supports Creation of Minority Affairs Office

Charleston, WV - Senate President Jeff Kessler (D - Marshall) applauded today the newly passed legislation creating the Herb Henderson Office of Minority Affairs.

House Bill 4015, creating the Office, completed legislative action Saturday. The Office will fall under the authority of the Governor’s Office and provide a forum for discussion of minority issues, make policy recommendations and award grants to minority affairs programs.

“The bill passed unanimously with funding support for an executive director and administrative assistant,” says Kessler. “The Senate remains committed to not only the establishment of the Office but its success in creating opportunities for all West Virginians.”

Senate Majority Leader John Unger (D-Berkeley) says he looks forward to working with the Governor in developing an office that advocates for all West Virginians. “Through this Office we can develop jobs and empower people in the community to create a better and brighter future.”

House Bill 4015 is awaiting the Governor’s signature.
