Senators Kessler and Stollings Win Primary Care Association Award

CHARLESTON, WV - In recognition of their leadership on issues that impact the lives of over 365,000 West Virginians who rely on community health care centers, Senate President Jeff Kessler (D-Marshall) and Senator Ron Stollings (D-Boone) receive the 2012 Distinguished Community Health Champion Award.

Senate President Kessler has consistently demonstrated his support for primary health care and our Federally Qualified Health Centers in West Virginia throughout his 15 year tenure in the Legislature. “I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” says Kessler. “However, my continued efforts in the Legislature to increase access to care throughout West Virginia pales in comparison to the tremendous work of our health care providers in our community health centers.”

Senator Stollings, Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Resources Committee, has fought vigorously for the advancement of primary care since he joined the West Virginia Senate in 2006. “It is an honor to be recognized by a group whose main focus is to serve as a safety net in providing health care to all West Virginians,” says Stollings. “There are many challenges related to primary care and the solutions necessary to bring about successful health care outcomes; however, I will continue to champion the goals of the West Virginia Primary Care Association to improve the State’s health care system.

Senate President Kessler and Senator Stollings received the inaugural award Thursday during the West Virginia Primary Care Association’s annual health care conference in Charleston.
