A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §5A-4-7, relating to requiring the General Services Division to provide former Legislators with access cards to the State Capitol building.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §5A-4-7, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 4. General Services Division.

§5A-4-7. Capitol building access cards for former Legislators.


(a) For the purposes of this section:

(1) “Former Legislator” means an individual who has served, but no longer serves, as an elected or appointed member of the West Virginia Legislature.

(2) “Access card” means an electromagnetic or other manner of card that an individual must swipe or otherwise use to gain access to a building entrance.

(b) Upon a former Legislator’s request, the division is required to provide the former Legislator with an access card that will enable the Legislator to enter the State Capitol building through any entrance that is regularly open to personnel and staff of government offices located within the State Capitol building.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the General Services Division to provide former Legislators with access cards to the State Capitol building.
