A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §17B-2-14a, relating to creation of the “West Virginia Emergency Contact Information Registry” for the purpose of providing contact information in case of an emergency.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 2. ISSUANCE OF LICENSE, EXPIRATION AND RENEWAL.


§17B-2-14a. Emergency contact information registry.

(a) There is hereby created the “West Virginia Emergency Contact Information Registry”, which is a database in which holders of a valid West Virginia driver’s license or identification card may voluntarily list emergency contact information, including “Do Not Resuscitate”, stored electronically on their driving record.  Valid West Virginia driver’s license or State of West Virginia identification card holders may provide the name and contact information for up to three persons who they wish to be notified in the event of an emergency.

(b) The commissioner shall propose legislative rules for promulgation that are necessary to carry out the purpose of this section in accordance with §29A-3-1 et seq. of this code.


 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to create the “West Virginia Emergency Contact Information Registry” for the purpose of providing contact information in case of an emergency. It also provides for including “Do Not Resuscitate” statement.  This bill is recommended by the State Police.
