A BILL to amend and reenact §18-28-4 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to requiring the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission to recognize private, parochial, or church schools or schools of a religious order or other nonpublic schools that meet the requirements of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission for nonparticipating school or team members.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 28. PRIVATE, PAROCHIAL OR CHURCH SCHOOLS, OR SCHOOLS OF A RELIGIOUS ORDER.


§18-28-4. Voluntary participation in state programs.

(a) Any private, parochial or church school or school of a religious order or other nonpublic school complying with the provisions of this article may, on a voluntary basis, participate in any state operated or state sponsored program otherwise made available to such schools by law.

(b) Any private, parochial or church school or school of a religious order or other nonpublic school, whose curriculum includes preparation of its students for college, that meets the requirements of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission for nonparticipating school or team members shall be recognized by that commission.


 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission to recognize private, parochial or church schools or schools of a religious order or other nonpublic schools that meet the requirements of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletic Commission for nonparticipating school or team members.
