HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 60

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 18-077/00-145.78 (NB-SB) (18A172), locally known as Sandy Creek NB-SB bridges, carrying I-77 over Sandy Creek in Jackson County, the “U.S. Army SP4 Lee Thomas Memorial Bridge”.

Whereas, Lee Thomas was born on November 4, 1933, in Sandyville, West Virginia, and passed away on December 7, 2016; and

Whereas, Lee Thomas was inducted into the United States Army on November 18, 1955, attained the rank of Specialist 4, and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1961; and

Whereas, SP4 Lee Thomas was a charter member of the Sandyville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for 48 years, 25 of which were as chief; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Fire Chief Lee Thomas and his contributions to his country, state, and his community; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 18-077/00-145.78 (NB-SB) (18A172), locally known as Sandy Creek NB-SB bridges, carrying I-77 over Sandy Creek in Jackson County, the “U.S. Army SP4 Lee Thomas Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “U.S. Army SP4 Lee Thomas Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
