SENATE RESOLUTION 49

(By Senators Blair (Mr. President), Azinger, Barrett, Boley, Caputo, Chapman, Clements, Deeds, Grady, Hamilton, Hunt, Jeffries, Karnes, Maroney, Martin, Maynard, Nelson, Oliverio, Phillips, Plymale, Queen, Roberts, Rucker, Smith, Stover, Stuart, Swope, Takubo, Tarr, Taylor, Trump, Weld, Woelfel, and Woodrum)

Memorializing the life of John Edward Eckhart, Jr., husband, father, grandfather, Fiscal Officer for the West Virginia Senate, and dedicated public servant.

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. was born on June 6, 1967, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of John E. and Shirley Eckhart; and

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. received his education at Parkersburg High School and Oklahoma Christian University; and

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane and in the choir of both his church and the Hurricane Civic Chorus, where his passion for singing was put on display for all to hear; and

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. had a passion for traveling, cooking, and riding his motorcycle, all of which took him to places around the United States and the world; and

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. was a dedicated public servant, having served for nearly 20 years at various West Virginia state government agencies, including the Health Care Authority, the Department of Transportation, and the Legislative Auditor’s Office Post Audit Division; and

Whereas, From January 2015 to December 14, 2022, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. served as a Fiscal Officer for the West Virginia Senate; and

Whereas, John Edward Eckhart, Jr., better known to his family and friends as Jay, was a kind soul, who put his faith in God and loved his family. Jay was a generous man who never failed to go above and beyond for those in need. His positive outlook on life was infectious to those around him and will carry on through all of those who knew him; and

Whereas, Sadly, John Edward Eckhart, Jr. succumbed to his battle with pancreatic cancer on December 14, 2022, ending a life that was dedicated to faith, family, and service, and leaving behind a host of family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly; and

Whereas, It is fitting that the Senate honor the life and legacy of John Edward Eckhart, Jr. for his many years of dedicated public service; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby memorializes the life of John Edward Eckhart, Jr., husband, father, grandfather, Fiscal Officer for the West Virginia Senate, and dedicated public servant; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its most sincere condolences to the family of John Edward Eckhart, Jr. on his passing; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of John Edward Eckhart, Jr.
