SENATE RESOLUTION 8

Designating January 17, 2023, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature.
Whereas, Tucker County was established in 1856, and is home to five incorporated communities: Parsons, Davis, Thomas, Hendricks, and Hambleton; and
Whereas, Tucker County is an important contributor to the state in the industries of tourism and outdoor recreation, as well as, lumber and wood products; and
Whereas, The City of Parsons, the county seat, is located at the confluence of five rivers and is home to an acclaimed bluegrass festival, Pickin’ in Parsons; and
Whereas, Tucker County is home to three state parks: Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, and Fairfax Stone, two designated wilderness areas, Dolly Sods and Otter Creek, and the Monongahela National Forest; and
Whereas, Tucker County is the home to the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the largest wetland complex in West Virginia and the 500th National Wildlife Refuge to be established in the United States; and
Whereas, Tucker County has a rich history, a unique culture, and incredible natural beauty that attracts visitors who seek authentic experiences; and
Whereas, Tucker County is home to the only Cultural District Authority that encompasses an entire county and was established to promote the cultural, artistic, historical, educational, and recreational opportunities available in Tucker County; and
Whereas, The citizens of Tucker County participate annually in the legislative process by traveling to the state capitol and meeting with their representatives to share accomplishments and aspirations; therefore, be it
That the Senate hereby recognizes Tucker County for its history, culture, outdoor recreation, and inspiring future in the State of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby designates January 17, 2023, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature; and be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the representatives of Tucker County Development Authority.
