Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to expand comprehensive coverage for pregnant women through Medicaid to 185 percent of the federal poverty level; provide coverage for 60 days postpartum; expand comprehensive coverage for pregnant women between 185 percent and 300 of the federal poverty level (FPL) including prenatal care, delivery and 60 days postpartum through the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The department estimates Medicaid costs to be approximately $850,000, CHIP costs are estimated to be $150,000, however the Bureau for Public Health is estimated to have a $400,000 reduction in expenditures.
The department estimates a total impact of $600,000.
We are unable, at this time, to anticipate how much long term savings there could be by getting these women covered, but over time we believe it will offset costs in child welfare and non covered pregnancy complications.
