Currently, there are a total of 680 public school buildings in West Virginia. If we assume that one armed veteran will be employed per school, WVDE estimates, based on an average contracted professional salary and associated costs, including, but not limited to, required training for each armed veteran will be as follows:
Estimated Salary Costs - $38,034,216
Estimated Fixed Charges - $3,141,626
Estimated Retirement Benefits - $2,974,276
Estimated PEIA Premiums - $4,909,693.
Training (West Virginia State Police Academy) - $1,360,000
Total Cost: $50,419,811 Per Armed Veteran
