Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

This proposed legislation, in its current form, creates the Cohen Craddock Student Athlete Act. The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) does not oversee the regulation of athletics. The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission (WVSSAC) is the organization charged with such oversight. The WVDE has learned that the WVSSAC currently has a similar commission as the one established in this legislation; therefore, the WVDE believes that creating a second commission would be duplicative.
