Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to require a person owing a judgment to a municipal court to pay, or enter into a payment plan, within 90 days of judgment. The bill further provides that a municipal court may request the DMV to suspend the driver's license of any person who fails to pay costs, fines, fees, and penalties owed within a specified timeframe. The Division will require two additional employees to process the expected volume of 10,000 transactions. Total personal services and benefits for these positions would be $128,242 annually. Current Expense would consist of mailing and supply expense of $9.10 per item for a total current expense of $91,000 (10,000 x $9.10). The Division expects 5,000 will ultimately reinstate their license generating $250,000 (5,000 X $50) in reinstatement fees.
