Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The bill permits volunteer firefighters with five or more years of service to be eligible for free vehicle registrations and license plates on their personal vehicles. The DMV estimates it will take 72 hours of programming on the cash register system at a rate of $125/hour. Total current expense of $9K (72hrs x $125/hr). The DMV estimates there are approximately 6K volunteer firefighters that would qualify for the exemption. Assuming 100% participation, this would result in a $300K decrease in revenue.
