Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to provide health insurance coverage for scalp cooling systems for the preservation of hair during cancer chemotherapy treatment. This bill will increase the claim costs of PEIA. PEIA identified 1,050 patients and 11,261 services of chemotherapy during plan year 2025. Utilizing recently updated Medicare reimbursement allowances adjusted to PEIA levels for these services, and assuming 74% (50% Male/90% Female) of current chemotherapy treatment utilization will utilize this service, PEIA estimates an increase in cost of $1.4 million.
