This note was compiled based on the following: -Cost of “rumble strip” = $7,920 per mile or $1.50 per foot -Qualifying “double-yellow” roadways = 8,630 miles Total cost = $68,349,600 *This cost was calculated using paved road mileage in 2025. In 2025, the DOH paved 602.5 miles of “double-yellow” roadways. If the DOH added rumble strips to planned paving projects, it would take 22 years at a cost of approximately $3.1M per year.

Memorandum


Additional analysis will need to be completed with local entities. DOH avoids placing rumble strips within 500-feet of residential housing because of the noise associated with the strips.
