Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
This legislation requires the development of a school choice portal. Similar proposed legislation was introduced last year (House Bill No. 2777). After discussion with the lead sponsor, the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) agreed to develop a school choice parent portal over the past year. The new application is currently in the testing phase and is awaiting feedback from the lead sponsor and focus group. Once the application is approved, it will be ready for launch for the 2026-2027 school year. To develop this application, the WVDE incurred the expenses as detailed in the fiscal note for House Bill No. 2777 (2025 Regular Session).
