Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to authorize the Division of Motor Vehicles to issue special vehicle registration plates recognizing the occupation of linemen; and establishing fees for the issuance of the special registration plate.
The plate carries a one-time $10 fee and an annual $15 fee in addition to all other fees. The legislation would be subject to the provisions of ยง17A-3-14(d) which require the Division to collect at least 250 completed applications, along with all associated fees, before design and production can begin. Therefore, total revenue would be $6,250 (($10 x 250)+($15 x 250)) in the year of implementation, and $3,750 ($15 x 250) per year thereafter.
The Division estimates it will cost $2,990 (26 hrs. x $115/hr.) for programming the cash register, and $3,600 (40 hrs. x $90/hr.) for mainframe programming. Registration plates of this nature cost approximately $7 per plate and will produce a total plate cost of $1,750 ($7 x 250). This produces a total current expense of $8,340 ($2,990 + $3,660 + $1,750).
