Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
This bill will increase the amount paid to witnesses to appear in court. Currently, a witness is paid not less than $10 nor more than $20 for each day in attendance (§59-1-16. Amount of allowance to witnesses for attendance; how and when made). This bill will increase the amount to $40 for each day of attendance.

Explanation of above estimates (including long-range effect):
We expect that the fees paid to witnesses will increase from $30,000 per fiscal year to $120,000 per fiscal year, an increase of $90,000. This is based on the actual fees paid in fiscal year 2021.
