Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to permit volunteer firefighters with five or more years of service to be eligible for free vehicle registrations and license plates on their personal vehicle. The Division estimates it will take 72 hours of programming on the cash register system at a rate of $115 per hour. Total current expense of $8,280 (72 hrs. X $115/hr.). The Division estimates that there are approximately 6,000 volunteer firefighters that would qualify for the exemption. Assuming 100% participation, this would lead to a $300,000 (6,000 X $50) annual reduction of revenue.
