Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

This fiscal note applies to the cost of the creation and continuation of an advisory commission, The Commission on Cost-of-Living Adjustments, as applicable to the Department of Revenue. Based on our interpretation of this proposed bill, the creation of the advisory commission, The Commission on Cost-of-Living Adjustments, the Secretary of Revenue shall provide office space and necessary administrative support to the commission upon request of the commission. While the bill does not provide for compensation of the 5 voting members, it does allow for reimbursement to members for all reasonable and necessary expenses, including travel expenses actually incurred by members in the conduct of their official duties. With the composition of the of the commission defined as including the Secretary of Administration (or designee), the Secretary of Revenue (or designee) and the Governor (or designee) should not incur travel expenses. Depending on the location of the remaining two two members, travel costs are estimated to be somewhere between $0 (remote access) to $1,000. Not yet understanding the scope of the Commission's activities, administrative expenses and/or the potential for additional staff are difficult to estimate at this time.
