Fiscal Note Summary

Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.

The purpose of this bill is to clarify that all species required to be checked will be electronically registered and clarify that it is unlawful to possess live wildlife unless authorized by law or legislative rule. The bill also removes the requirement to present legally taken deer or turkeys to a Natural Resources Police Officer or game checking station before transporting beyond the county or adjacent county boundary before being checked. The Division of Natural Resources recently implemented an electronic game checking system which eliminated the need to present the animal to a Natural Resources Police Officer or official game checking station. Because the system is already functional there will be no fiscal impact on the Division if the bill becomes law.
