Fiscal Note Summary
Effect this measure will have on costs and revenues of state government.
The purpose of this bill is to make legislative findings, establish a driver’s license restoration program, permit waiving certain reinstatement requirements to restore driving privileges, and reduce from ninety days to thirty days the period for suspension upon receipt of notice of driving while suspended for offenses other than driving under the influence. The bill also grants rule-making authority.
There are currently 159,148 unpaid citation files ten years old or older. If all files were cleared during the one year period at the new rate of $25, the total revenue loss would be $3,978,700 even though most reinstatement fees appear to be uncollectable.
